Ignatius of Loyola

Ignatius of Loyola (1491–1556) was a Spanish Catholic priest and founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). A pivotal figure of the Counter-Reformation, he developed the Spiritual Exercises, one of Christianity's most influential spiritual texts. Originally a soldier, Ignatius underwent spiritual conversion while recovering from a battlefield injury and went on to establish principles that shaped Catholic education and missionary work for centuries.
